Join us in the Clam Factory for the official opening of "Wood on Water – Traditional Wooden Fishing Buoys of the Eastern Shore"
Friday, October 27th at 6:30 PM.
This new permanent exhibit features traditional wooden fishing buoys from Three Fathom Harbour to Ecum Secum.
Everyone is welcome to attend and see first-hand the wide variety of traditional wooden buoys, from lobster buoys to standing buoys to net corks, which were once common but now rarely seen.
Many of the buoys have been identified so that we know who made or used them. In other cases, we just know where the buoys are from. But in all cases they stand as a testament to the skill and ingenuity of the fisherman who made them by hand from local trees.
