Help us Make Memory Lane Heritage Village Nova Scotia’s first solar-powered museum.

Two local ad hoc community groups, ‘Seniors for Solar’ (the over 65s) and the ‘Memory Lane Heritage Village Summer Staff Alumni’ (the under 35s), have joined forces to raise $85,000 to install a solar power generation system and other museum-wide electrical efficiency upgrades at Memory Lane. The solar panel system is projected to generate 33-34,000KWh per year, equal to the projected annual power consumption of Memory Lane, thus making it Nova Scotia’s (and possibly Canada’s) first fully solar-powered museum.

The completed project is estimated to offset 25 tonnes of greenhouse gases per year and save Memory Lane about $5,500 per year, a goal that has brought the ‘Seniors for Solar’ and the ‘Memory Lane Heritage Village Summer Staff Alumni’ together in this fundraising project, divided into four distinct campaigns:

  • An online crowdfunding campaign
  • A charitable foundations campaign
  • A public sector program campaign
  • A ‘Pay for a Panel’ campaign

‘Pay for a Panel’ Campaign
The solar panel system has sixty-six panels, each of which can be sponsored for $500. Each panel sponsor will have their name/logo and any accompanying message (limit of 25 words) recorded on a donor panel on the outside of the building that houses the system. Charitable tax receipts can be issued for individuals who sponsor a panel.

Public Sector Programs Campaign
The Lake Charlotte Area Heritage Society, a not-for-profit society registered in Nova Scotia under the Societies Act (2429150), is the owner and operator of Memory Lane Heritage Village, with a significant record of successfully executing major infrastructure projects utilizing a combination of public and private sector funds.

Charitable Foundations Campaign
All funds raised via the four campaigns will flow directly to the Lake Charlotte Area Heritage Society, a not-for-profit society registered in Nova Scotia under the Societies Act (2429150), and a Canadian Revenue Agency registered charitable organization (892899568-RR0001). The society’s endowment fund is administered by the Community Foundations of Nova Scotia. Online Crowdfunding Campaign
The crowdfunding campaign is organized by the ‘Memory Lane Heritage Village Summer Staff Alumni’ as part of the overall campaign. This group of under-35 year olds is mostly comprised of people who have worked at Memory Lane in the past as summer students and are now scattered far and wide. The crowdfunding campaign will be launched shortly. Please check back soon!
