The Heritage Society needs to raise $29,000 by July 1st, 2019 to fully fund the $79,000 installation of a solar power generation system and other museum-wide electrical efficiency upgrades at Memory Lane Heritage Village. The solar panel system is projected to generate 33-34,000 KWh per year, equal to the projected annual power consumption of Memory Lane once consumption reduction measures take place (i.e. LED lights and heat pump). This will make Memory Lane the first 100% solar-powered museum in Nova Scotia (and possibly Canada).
The completed project is estimated to offset 25 tonnes of greenhouse gases per year and save Memory Lane about $5,500 per year. Our goal is to install the panels in June on the Artifact Storage Facility roof (located outside the registered heritage property area). The completed project will be unveiled on July 1st, 2019 (Memory Lane’s 19th birthday)!
The total project cost is $79,000 (including solar panels and energy efficiency upgrades) of which $50,000 has been received through provincial government programs, thus we have just $29,000 left to raise to fully fund the project.
The Lake Charlotte Area Heritage Society recognizes the support of the Province of Nova Scotia in assisting with our goal to become the first 100% solar-powered museum in Nova Scotia. We are pleased to work in partnership with the Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage to develop and promote our cultural resources for all Nova Scotians.
Check out our online crowdfunding campaign at www.crowdrise.com/solarpoweredmuseum. Minimum donation is $10 and all donors will receive a charitable tax receipt. We hope anyone who has worked for, volunteerd for, or visited the Heritage Village will consider making a $20 or more donation. It will take only 1,450 people donating $20 each to meet our $29,000 goal! In 2018 we had 13,000 visitors, so this is a doable goal!

‘Pay for a Panel’ Campaign
The solar panel system has sixty-six panels, each of which can be sponsored for $500. Each panel sponsor will have their name/logo and any accompanying message (limit of 25 words) recorded on a donor panel and placed on the "Founder Wall" inside the Hosking Store. Charitable tax receipts can be issued for individuals who sponsor a panel. To talk to someone about the project and the fundraising campaign please email firstname.lastname@example.org and someone will contact you.
Please Note: All donor messages must be approved by the Lake Charlotte Area Heritage Society before being posted on the founders wall.
Charitable Foundations Campaign
All funds raised via the three campaigns will flow directly to the Lake Charlotte Area Heritage Society, a not-for-profit society registered in Nova Scotia under the Societies Act (2429150), and a Canadian Revenue Agency registered charitable organization (892899568-RR0001). The society’s endowment fund is administered by the Community Foundations of Nova Scotia.
