2020 Summer Events - Covid-19 Update

Thu, May 07, 2020

Due to the ongoing concerns around the spread of Covid-19, and with the understanding that our events rely on a large input of volunteer assistance, we have decided to cancel all currently scheduled events at least until the end of August to ensure the safety of our volunteers, staff and visitors.

We will also remain closed to the public until July 15th, 2020. In the meantime, we will be working on plans to re-open safely.

We will reassess the rest of the summer season at this time and make plans accordingly. While we are closed to the public, we will be doing everything we can to employ our staff and students in a safe manner to improve the Village through repairs, painting projects and collections managements. We will also be bringing you virtual experiences of Eastern Shore heritage so you can take a stroll down Memory Lane and explore our Eastern Shore heritage from the comfort and safety of your own homes.

In the words of Vera Lynn: “I know we’ll meet again some sunny day.”

Nova Scotia Forest Festival

Sat, October 03, 2020

Due to the uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, this event has been cancelled for the 2020 season.

Grab Your Plaid and Head for the Woods!

The Nova Scotia Forest Festival is a showcase of the many ways Nova Scotians connect to the Province’s forests for their livelihood, housing, recreation, food, and heritage. From hands-on demonstrations and activities to learning to throw an axe or paddle a canoe, come and enjoy an array of activities in the fresh fall air!

After working up an appetite, head on over to the Cookhouse where we will be serving traditional lumberjack meals on enamel plates and bowls, just like back in the day! $12 for your choice of a bowl of Soup, Stew or Baked Beans, along with brown bread, gingerbread with lemon sauce, and a beverage - all cooked and baked according to traditional recipes! A BBQ will also be available during our axe-throwing tournament, which will take place from 1 - 3PM.

The Nova Scotia Forest Festival runs from 11am to 4pm and is rain or shine, so come on out no matter the weather!

Please Note: Memory Lane Heritage Village has farm animals on site and does not allow pets within the Village grounds.

Please check back for the 2020 Forest Festival video in the new year!

“Walk Through Bethlehem”

Sat, November 28, 2020

Join us on Saturday, November 28th when Memory Lane Heritage Village will be transformed into the biblical scenes of the nativity, from the census taking of the soldiers of Caesar Augustus, to the "no vacancy" inn, to the marketplace of Bethlehem, to the birthplace of Jesus in the stable with live animals watching! A choir will be performing in the church throughout the duration of the walk, as well as local musicians in the clam factory and at the nativity scene. Warm drinks and cookies will be available (free will offering).

Free will offering. Please "pay" your "taxes" as the census is taken. Donations will be shared between the local food bank and the Heritage Village.

The "walk" will be open to the public from 4 PM to 7 PM, so come anytime during the duration, please allow at least an hour for your visit.

Here are some things to consider:

  • Parking is limited (additional parking across from Webbers Store), please carry a flashlight, and be safe.
  • We are accessible, but in the dark, uneven terrain may pose challenges.
  • Most of the "walk" takes place outside. Dress appropriately. Even indoor spaces will be cool as the doors open and close frequently.
  • The village is very pretty after dark, consider coming after 5:30, as past years have been busiest before dusk.
  • Take your time, there is no need to rush, enjoy the music and be aware that the nativity scene has limited viewing and you may need to wait.
  • Take time to meet your neighbours in line and enjoy the season.
  • As we do not know how many visitors will attend, please understand that treats are limited (bring additional snacks if needed).
  • Washrooms are located in the Hosking Store (as you enter) and then at the end of the "walk" in the Cookhouse.
  • Please no flash photography during the nativity (and around the animals).

Please Note: Memory Lane Heritage Village has farm animals on site and does not allow pets within the Village grounds.

Time: 4PM to 7PM

Fee: Free Will Donation
